Originally released in 1982, Can’t Get Enough captures Johnny Clarke during his early 1980s phase, as Jamaican reggae was moving away from the deep roots sound of the 1970s toward a more streamlined, rhythm-driven style.
The album maintains Clarke’s unmistakable falsetto and conscious delivery, while embracing a slightly lighter, more melodic approach suited to the evolving dancehall era. The production keeps a solid roots foundation, but with a cleaner and more direct sound compared to his classic recordings with Bunny Lee.
This 2022 repress on Lantern Records (LANR020) brings back a lesser-seen title from Clarke’s catalog, highlighting his ability to adapt while staying true to his signature vocal style.
Johnny Clarke remains one of the defining voices of roots reggae, rising to prominence in the mid-1970s with a string of major hits.
