Contempo is a rare UK roots/dub album recorded in the mid-1970s and originally released in 1975 on the band’s own Jade label. Known for its stripped-down, atmospheric sound, the album stands as an early example of independent British reggae production.
Black Jade were a UK-based group with a strong DIY approach, releasing only two albums—Contempo and Rockers—both now considered key pieces of early UK roots and dub history.
This 2025 reissue on Solid Roots makes the album available again, preserving its deep, minimal and experimental sound.
